Josip Lučev (Ph.D.) is an Assistant Professor (Docent) at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb, where he holds courses in International Political Economy, Economic History of Croatia since the 19th Century, Croatia in International Economic Relations, and the Political Economy of the EU. He also serves as Head of the Master's Programme in Political Science and Executive Editor of the journal Politička misao.
His research sits at the intersection of comparative and international political economy. He examines long-run systemic cycles of capitalist accumulation and how they drive institutional change in labor markets, using the USA, Germany, and China as central cases. A parallel strand of work addresses the peripheral capitalism of post-socialist Europe, with a sustained focus on Croatia: its growth regime, fiscal policy, corruption, and European integration.
Lučev's first monograph, Systemic Cycle and Institutional Change: Labor Markets in the USA, Germany and China (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021), was subsequently translated into German and published by Springer Gabler (2023). His second monograph, Kapitalizam u Hrvatskoj: Perifernost, korupcija, razvoj (Jesenski i Turk / Politička misao, 2025), offers a comprehensive political-economic analysis of Croatian capitalism.
